Join SEAOI and Steel Joist Institute for a half-day program devoted to steel joists and decks with presentations from Eric Siew of Gooder-Henrichen and Mike Antici, Vulcraft - South Carolina.

Attendees will receive 4 hours of CU credit

Lessons Learned:  Do's and Don't for Specifying Open Web Joists and Joists Girders This presentation reviews information required when using joists and joist girders. Eric will also share information from past projects to show best practices (Do's) to employ for general notes, loads, designating joists and joist girders. He will also explain the (Don't) to ensure projects with joist and joist girders are completed with minimal interruptions, i.e. RFIs

Diaphragm Design with Steel Deck will expand your knowledge of steel deck diaphragms for roof and floor decks, including the requirements of the ANSI/AISI S310 North American Standard for the Design of Profiled Steel Diaphragm Panels. The basis of this presentation is the new Fourth Edition of the Steel Deck Institute (SDI) Diaphragm Design Manual (DDM04) and AISI S310-16. Topics to be discussed include diaphragm strength and stiffness, fasteners and connections, and warping, stiffness properties and on-line tools. The greatly expanded Design Examples and Load Tables that are included in DDM04 will also be discussed. The goal of this webinar is to enable the participant to design steel deck diaphragms with greater efficiency resulting in lower construction costs.

Retrofitting Buildings With Steel Joists  will have three parts. First, we will discuss and show examples of joists needing to be retrofitted. Second, we will demonstrate methods to evaluate existing open web steel joists and Joist Girders for revised loading conditions. The last part will demonstrate the methods with examples of how to modify existing open web joists. This presentation parallels the Steel Joist Institute publication, Technical Digest No. 12 "Evaluation and Modification of Open Web Steel Joists and Joist Girders."

Design of Steel Deck For Concentrated & Non-uniform Loading - Steel floor and roof deck manufacturers provide load tables for uniform loading, but how should concentrated and nonuniform loads be considered in design? This session will provide designers with the tools needed to handle these situations, including concentrated loads from rack systems, scissor lifts, mechanical equipment, forklifts, and rooftop equipment.
